Mrs. Mildred M. Doane, 78, Covington, a retired school teacher, died unexpectedly Sunday in her home. She retired in 1963 after teaching many years in several Fountain County schools, including 23 years at the Covington Elementary School. A 1917 graduate of Covington High School, she attended several schools and was certified to teach long before actually receiving a degree from Indiana State University in 1951. She had attended Madam Blaker's School at Indianapolis, Teachers College of Indianapolis and Butler University. A life-long resident of Fountain County, she had made her home here since 1917. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Win One Class, Troy Chapter 145 Order of Eastern Star, Booklovers Club, Fort Nightly Bridge Club and a former member of the Women's Club. Born Nov. 20, 1899, near Wallace in Fountain County, she was a daughter of Elbert and Belle Livengood McKee. She was married Oct. 23, 1920, at Indianapolis to Earl E. Doane, he died in 1969. Surviving are two sons, C.J. of Valparaiso and William M of Morton, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Hugh (Marcie) Carter of Veedersburg; and eight grandchildren. Services will be at 2 pm Thursday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here with the Rev. Robert H. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 5-9 pm Wednesday.
